Biography
Name: Keira Helen Lenore & Matthias Carter
Age: 17 & around 150
Brief History: Keira is the daughter of Anna and Michael Lenore - and perhaps, more importantly, the granddaughter of Helen Elizabeth. She inherited from her grandmother the ability to communicate with spirits, a gift that had been passed down through every other generation as long as anyone could remember.
Despite this - or perhaps because of the family's knowledge of their particular inheritance -, Keira led a remarkably normal childhood. She thought nothing of the people she could occasionally see that her friends couldn't - and in the event any of them were hostile, she had the skills to get rid of them.
Around her seventh birthday, she met a ghost named Matthias. He appeared to her as a young boy, and they became fast friends. He would eventually reveal to her that he was much older, and that he had been a young man when he was killed in a skirmish of the American Civil War. As Keira grew, Matthias appeared to age with her and appointed himself as her protector.
When Keira was thirteen, her parents were approached about her taking part in a study on paranormal phenomena. They agreed, and she and Matthias accompanied a team of researchers to an allegedly haunted location. They were barely through the gate before Matthias refused to go any further. Keira was able to talk him into going with her - and it was only his intervention that bought her time to escape when the ghosts of the location attacked. It left both of them weak for a time, though they have since recovered their previous strength.
Shortly after, Keira's family relocated to the west coast, to a small town in California somewhat known in their circles for its phenomena. Despite that, most of Keira's friends know little about her ability, and the few that can see Matt know him to be her brother.
Personality: Keira has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and attitude beyond her years. She might appear to be fearless, but the simple fact is that she has seen worse, and while she never takes Matt's protection for granted, she knows he has her back - and she has his in the face of anyone who might try to harm him.
She is very social and is a frequent sight at school activities - but she also keeps to a small group of close friends, the better to keep people from thinking her odd if they find out her family's history.
Matthias is equally sarcastic, possibly especially because most people can't hear when he has a comment to make. He is fiercely protective of Keira, up to and including doing things to make her laugh where others can't see when she's having a bad day. He is out of time, and while he can change his appearance to seem to be wearing modern clothing (and to hide the evidence of the wounds that killed him), his behavior might give him away.
Abilities: Keira can see ghosts and other beings not of this plane. They appear to her to be completely normal - aside from the fact that they may have a grievous injury or be able to walk through things. She can also sense when they are nearby, and the stronger the entity, the more easily she can locate them.
She can also channel spirits, though it takes a lot out of her to do so. The exception to this is Matt, and they have shared enough energy between them over the years that they actually become stronger during the time he is using her body. They are limited by time, however. The longest she has channeled him was just over half an hour, and when he left her body, her heart stopped and she had to be resuscitated.
The two of them can draw energy from and lend energy to the other, as well. If Keira is tired or injured, for example, Matthias can give her energy, handicapping himself and his ability to affect things physically for a time. In turn, Keira can give Matthias energy, allowed him to more easily interact with the physical world.
While they don't have an actual psychic connection, they are constantly aware of each other. Even if they aren't in the same room, they always know where the other is.
